Express Check-Out
We all noticed over the years that many stores are providing Express Check-out lanes for those of us with few items or that may be in a hurry. Most of these express check-out lanes are the "do it yourself" type in which you scan your own items and follow the instructions. Why do people that don't understand technology or that can't follows instructions use these lanes? We've all seen them; they get upset because their item won't scan or because they simply don't understand how the machine works. They hold up the entire line because they can't scan an item and put it in the bag correctly. They then proceed to get upset with the employee that is taking care of not one but four lanes all by themselves. If you have trouble with such machines or you can't handle the thought of being under pressure to bag your own items, why not go to a line where there is a person to help you check out? They help you get through this overcoming ordeal and will even provide a certified bagger to help you collect your items.
Motorcycling
The joys of cruising down the highway or country road on a motorcycle is hard to explain unless you've tried it. It is a very relaxing and mind freeing experience that many are taking full advantage of, now more so than ever with the rising gas prices. Motorcycles can be very enjoyable and dangerous all at the same time. Many counties offer a beginner's class for motorcycles that is very beneficial for new riders or someone who has been riding for years. The state does not require such training resulting in countless motorcycle accidents each year, thus making higher insurance for all. Why would this not be a requirement? Think of the money the state would bring in by forcing people to take such a class. A class or training is required for driving a motor vehicle, why not for a motorcycle?
Keep Those Feet Neat
One morning as I was walking in to the building for work, I noticed a well dressed lady walking a few steps in front of me. Her hair and makeup were done to perfection. She had on a really cute pair of capri pants, a patterned top and really cute shoes. The kind of shoes that are so nice you want to give them a second glance so you can try to shop for some later. Well, during my “second glance” I noticed that she had taken the time to polish her toe nails, which was nice, because the shoes were open toed sandals. Another second passed and my brain computed what I had also seen. Crusties! I quickly looked back at her shoes and noticed that she had crusty heels (and probably crusty toes too). Seriously, there must be some kind of fungal think going on or she hasn’t ever heard of a pumice stone. It nearly turned my stomach. Here was this woman who went out of her way to look nice. She probably spends a lot of money on clothing, makeup and having her hair done. Why wouldn't she spend $2 for a pumice stone? I hate it when women make such an effort to look nice and then totally negate all of the work that they have done by overlooking something like this. For example, if she has a fungal issue and can't get rid of the crusties, the outfit would have looked just as cute with a pair of ballet flats.
It could be just me. This is a big pet peeve of mine. I know it’s hard to keep your feet happy and looking good, but make some effort. Slap on some lotion, use a pumice, go get it sloughed off at the salon and if all of that doesn’t work, put on some socks! No wonder most people “hate” feet. Too many people just let them go and put them out on display for all to see.
Heavy Equipment
Ever notice how most heavy equipment is normally moved in the middle of rush hour traffic, whether it is a large crane or just your basic backhoe? Why do these companies decide to move such equipment at these busy times? Wouldn't it be easier to move these huge steel monsters when there is less traffic? Looking at it from a business perspective, moving the night before and having it at the desired location for the next day would be more efficient. Having the equipment on the job and ready to go would seem to be easier and more work would get done on the site location. Logistically it sounds like a good idea but I'm sure management would disagree. I do believe there is a lack of foresight on most jobs today and the majority coming from management, why?
Stay Home!
This could only be a problem that I have encountered. Most mornings I can just drive along rt. 60 with no problems. I enjoy the country scenes, horses, and cows and rolling land, sort of reminds me of home. But some mornings I often wonder WHY RETIRED people get up so early and drive 40 mph and just look from side to side enjoying the beauty. WHY don’t they wait until after 9:00 am to get out and drive to the local coffee and donut shop? I think there should be a law not allowing RETIRED people or those who chose not to work for whatever reason to not be on the roads until after 9:00 am. Those of us who have to earn a living in this gas driven world need to get to work on time. Stay home people your coffee can wait! I know, I could drive the interstate, but I chose to enjoy the scenery and travel rt. 60, I guess I really don’t have a right to complain.
The Day The Lights Went Out
I am a state employee and my daughter visited me for lunch. After a hearty meal she decided she needed to go visit the restroom before returning to work as she works across town. The restroom is a few doors down the hall from my office and she calls me on my cell phone to tell me she needs toilet paper, I found that to be funny….UNTIL, she called me back and started screaming hurry mom the lights are out. I immediately went to the restroom and she said I have sat here waving both arms and have tried to get the lights to come back on with no luck. Once I stepped in the door the lights came back on as they are motion lighting. I am not quite sure why a public building would have motion lights in the restroom. Once again, I am a state employee and we are reminded daily, the state is broke. So anytime you visit the Fayette Co. DCBS office and have an emergency bathroom break, be very careful you could be left in the dark.
Pardon Me?
I'm at the mall the other day doing some much needed shopping when I experienced yet another case of common sense being left at home. This lady is in the check-out line speaking another language and gets mad at the girl behind the counter because she doesn't understand. When did the mall start hiring college kids that were fluent in multiple languages? If someone doesn't understand you because you aren't speaking their language, how does that become their problem? Seems to me you should speak their native tongue if you want them to respond.
Let Me Think!
So I'm sitting at the drive-thru line at McDonalds the other day and this car in front of me is basically reading the menu trying to figure out what to buy. Has McD's changed the menu that much in 30 years that people need to do this? How can you not know what you want from any fast food restaurant, it is basically all the same, not much has changed? Maybe they should have a separate line for those people so the rest of the world can get their food and get gone in a timely manner.
Pull out or stay put!
Ever been driving along and you see a car up a head of you waiting to pull out? The driver waits until you get right upon them and then pulls out right in front of you causing you to slam on the brakes. What makes them think their gas saving tin can will be able to make it up to speed before you hit them square in the ass? Why couldn't they have waited another 5 seconds for you to pass since no one is behind you?
Weird Signs
So I walked into a public bathroom the other day and noticed a sign on the stall door that said, "Please do not lean against the back of the toiliet." So have we become so lazy that we can't sit up straight while taking a poo that we have to lay back on the toilet to catch our breath? Are we so fat that the simple act of taking a crap starts damaging the area that was designed for such a thing?
